Svein Jemtland was convicted of killing his wife, Janne Jemtland. After receiving assistance from Adalat Law Firm, his case is being reopened due to unlawful strip searches.

Like many others who have served time in Norwegian prisons, Jemtland was subjected to at least 350 unlawful routine strip searches while incarcerated. One of our fundamental values is that injustice must be addressed — including who is subjected to it and how society views such actions.

The founder of Adalat Law Firm, Attorney Lars Mathias Undheim, represents Jemtland in connection with the petition for reopening.

In an interview with NRK, he said:
– It has been established by the Supreme Court that this practice violates human rights and constitutes degrading treatment.
– We will therefore demand at least 175 days of sentence reduction for the violations he was subjected to.
