Attorney Lars Mathias Undheim and associate attorney Eivind Abrahamsen assisted a man serving preventive detention at Halden prison, after he reported that his rights were not being upheld.

Through work on the case, it was revealed that Halden prison houses several individuals serving preventive detention, despite not being a designated institution for such inmates, and lacking the resources and competence to meet their specific needs.

“Without programs and measures that support the rehabilitation of the convicted person, he cannot prove that the risk of reoffending is reduced. Without such proof, there is no end in sight for the convicted individual,” said attorney Lars Mathias Undheim to NRK in February this year.

Our lawyers eventually managed to get the client transferred to a proper preventive detention facility, despite a nationwide shortage of space for such inmates. However, the agreement required that Halden receive another detainee from Trondheim prison in return.

“The whole situation appears to be an attempt to cover up the criticism my client has directed at the prison,” said attorney Undheim.
