In several cases, attorney Lars Mathias Undheim of Adalat Law Firm has helped uncover that Norwegian prisons are not providing inmates with prescribed medical cannabis.

Last fall, attorney Undheim brought the matter to the Parliamentary Ombudsman, who agreed that the practice constituted a violation of the inmates’ human rights.

“It is quite scandalous that something as simple as providing medication to a chronic pain patient is not in place,” said attorney Lars Mathias Undheim to NRK in a February 2023 article.

“There have been violations of fundamental procedural rules in the Public Administration Act, and what they have done is plainly illegal. They have violated his human rights,” he said in a new case in September 2023.
